Monster Rancher Advance 2 Raising Mechanics

Mechanics
US Version Awareness
  • In the first month of a monster's life, be it from shrine or combine, it will gain +45 weight every week until you feed him in the next month. The JP version doesn't behave this way, only EN version.
  • This is why a fresh baby monster will always be Obese and get the Glutton trait if you don't spar immediately, or start at the 4th week of the month.
  • Glutton is automatically acquired when a monster is Obese.

Lifespan and Feeding

A monster's lifespan value varies depending on its main and sub breed, of course. The average lifespan value for this game is 2550 (Divide by 10 and you have 255 weeks average lifespan). The Lifespan value not simply being a "1 week increment" allows for smaller than 1 week increments of lifespan adjustments.

The Lifespan Value goes down by 10 points every week by default, and drops an additional 5 points if your monster's "Fullness" reaches less than 100 at the start of a week.
(Fullness is a term coined by bedegeln to describe a hidden parameter in the game that has no name)

NOTES:

All these values are added every week. So in the span of a month the monster will gain 4x these values.

The fullness gain value varies just a tiny bit for different monsters.

Notes for reaching Maturity faster:
  • If you take a look at both tables above, you can see why the "Nuts method" works and you can reach maturity faster using it.
  • Feeding nuts just isn't enough to maintain a monster's fullness value above 100, unless you rest every single week.
  • Feeding nothing or dessert will also work here (to accelerate a monster's maturity), but they add or substract too much weight.
  • Once the monster reach "crucial period", banana is the most "balanced" food.

 

Stress and Fatigue
In MRA2, the monster's stress and fatigue values range from 0 to a max of 999.
There are levels for these values, which Holly will tell you. The worse your monster's condition is, the bigger the lifespan hit.

Stress & Fatigue lifespan hits are added on top of the default weekly Lifespan Value of -10 and is additive.
for example if your monster is "Pretty stressed" and "Exhausted" at the start of the week, it will take (10+6+12) = 28 points deducted from its remaining Lifespan Value.

The max Lifespan Value hit is 55 points when your monster is "Really stressed (above 900)", "About to collapse", and its fullness value below 100.

Training

Training Schedules

Four Options for schedules:
  1. HD, HD, Rest - This pattern provides the most points overall but being odd, the drills fall on different weeks each month for 4 months..
  2. HD, HD, LD, Rest
  3. HD, LD, LD, Rest
  4. LD, LD, LD, Rest

- BEFORE Incense: Stress will accumulate without occasional battles to help reset stress to 0.
- AFTER Incense or better passive, Stress and Fatigue should be at or close to 0 after every rest.

Schedule Breakdowns

The key is to determine the Net gains and if it's beneficial. Different monsters will have different stat gains so depending on the drills done and their gains, it can be different than the below examples, but it should at least be relative if you're leaning into a monster's good stat gains.

Using the Wolfkin route as the example, during pre-prime and prime phases:

  • POW + ACC Hard Drill gives 22 POW, 8 ACC, -3 SPD. A Net gain of 27 points per drill.
  • POW Light Drill gives 16 POW. A net gain of 16 points per drill.
With that in mind, the 4 different raising schedules with near-prime averages would look like so:

Notes about training:

  • Your monster will be more stressed if it's Slim or Thin, and less stressed if it's Fat and Obese.
  • Your monster will always be more fatigued if it's not at Normal weight.
  • At Fat and Obese fatigue increase is higher.
  • Sparring is not affected by weight.

Great Trainings

The monster will gain -50 stress if you praise it, and +30 stress you don't.

Failed Trainings

There 2 types of failed trainings:
  1. One is when Holly said that your monster "didn't do it right" (failed because of Reliance).
    • Scold it, it will gain 20 more stress, -5 discipline, +1 reliance.
    • Don't scold it, it will gain 20 less stress, +12 discipline, -1 reliance.
  2. The other "didn’t do very well" (because of Discipline, if it's too spoilt the chance for this type will increase).
    • Scold it, it will gain 70 more stress, -12 discipline, +1 reliance.
    • Don't scold it, it will gain 20 less stress, +12 discipline, -1 reliance.
If your monster has the "Expert" trait, the chances for successes and greats are increased (percentage number unknown), but it will gain an additional 60 stress if it fails its training.

 

Coaches

Standard Coaches:

  • Standard Coach selections are updated every April 1st on Odd years. Each selection lasted 2 years.
  • Since the game started at year 1, the first selection update is on Year 3, then Year 5, then Year 7 and so on.
  • There are 10 set of Standard Coach selection in the game.
  • This means for the first rotation, the last set are the one alvailable on year 19, and the pool reset during year 21 to be the same as the one at the start of the game.

Super Coaches:

  • There are 3 Super Coach, Morgan, Aegis, Arther. Their appearance are repeated in that order.
  • The Super Coach appears every Even years on a specific month. They will stay for that entire month of the year and leaves after that month passed.
  • The Super Coach have 30000 deposit cost, but their term payment is still 800
  • The Super Coach have 5 separate patterns of appearance. After the fifth pattern are shown, it will reset to pattern one similar to how the 10 standard coach pool worked
  • This means the first Super Coach would appear at year 2, their rotation will end by year 30, and then by year 32 they would repeats the pattern

Observations:

  • Incense is quite powerful especially for a speedrun.
  • Only the best gem and cup are worth having, though they are quite expensive.
  • The lower-tiered gems and cups reduce too little stress and fatigue to be of any real value.
